Rung by the local band prior to the thanksgiving service for the work, ministry and friendship of the Community of St Francis in this benefice over the past 12 years, particularly here at St Peter’s, who are now moving on to pastures new. Sister Maureen has been a loyal member of our local band of ringers since the community moved up here in 2010 and she will be greatly missed by us all.
Rung for the feast of St Francis of Assisi (4th October).
Also rung on Lincolnshire Day celebrating the counties heritage and culture. The day marks the anniversary of the Lincolnshire Rising in 1536 against Henry VIII and the Dissolution of the Monasteries, which began in Louth making its way to Lincoln.
A few miles to the north east of the village (at the hamlet of Wasps Nest), stood Nocton Park Priory which was founded in the 12th century as an Augustinian Priory dedicated to St Mary Magdalene, and which was dissolved in 1536 by Henry VIII. It was one of the many monasteries/abbeys which once stood along the Witham Valley.
Jane Kania, Michael Christie & Jayne Palmer wish to be associated with this ringing.
