On Tuesday, August 25th, an attempt was made at St. Laurence's for a quarter-peal of Grandsire Triples, with the bells half-muffled, for the Rev. H. T. Ellacombe, late Rector of Clyst St. George, Devon, but after ringing 826 changes in 35 mins., the tenor rope broke, thus bringing it to grief.
After adjusting another rope, a 575 of Grandsire Caters was rung, in 26 ½ mins.
