Specially arranged and rung at the request of the PCC to celebrate the Diamond Wedding Anniversary of Ray & Rosie Snell, who were married in this Church 60 years ago today!
60 years ago on their wedding day they did not have any bells rung as there were only three unringable and cracked bells here as the present eight bells were still at Hagworhtingham and not installed in this tower until 1978. Hence today's bells are the wedding bells they never had!
Ray & Rosie are long standing residents of Welbourn. Ray is a former Churchwarden and they are both great supporters of this Church, having paid for the complete restoration of the Church Clock a few years ago which had not run for decades. Hence the PCC wished to thank them for all they have done for the Church over the years and thought it would be nice if the bells could be rung on their special day.
Sadly Ray woke up not feeling well with a fever this morning and after a trip to the Doctor’s and some antibiotics was told to go to bed and rest. He was disappointed to miss the ringing but instead listened to it from home with the bed room window open. We hope your feeling better soon Ray, you were missed today!
However Rosie did come down to Church to listen to the end of the quarter and joined the ringers, Churchwarden and some of the PCC members to celebrate afterwards with tea and cake, although not quite the same without Ray being there.
Chris Woodcock wishes to be associated with this quarter as he was prevented from ringing due to ill health but organised the band. Sincere thanks to all the band, for coming out and ringing and special thanks to Stephen for calling the quarter!
